Islanders bring back former player from Seattle; Red Wings claim 2016 5th overall pick
Both players that were on Saturday's waiver wire have been picked up. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the New York Islanders have claimed former Islander Austin Czarnik off waivers from the Seattle Kraken, while the Detroit Red Wings have picked up defenceman Olli Juolevi from the Florida Panthers.
Czarnik, 29, started the 2021-22 season with the New York Islanders, playing in eleven games with them, and twenty games with their AHL affiliate, before being placed on waivers and claimed by Seattle in early-February.
In seventeen games this season between the Islanders and Kraken, Czarnik has seven points (two goals, five assists), no penalty minutes and is a plus-five.
Juolevi, a native of Helsinki (Finland), is now with the third NHL organization of his young career. He was selected with the fifth overall pick in 2016 by the Vancouver Canucks and spent parts of three seasons in their organization before being traded to Florida just before the 2021-22 season began.
The 23-year-old appeared in ten games for the Florida Panthers this season, recording no points, two penalty minutes and had an even rating.
