The National Hockey League's trade deadline is nearly two weeks away and trade talks are heating up.
An NHL source has confirmed to D'Amico that the Stars and Canadiens are in trade discussions.
"A well-placed NHL source has confirmed to Montreal Hockey Now that the Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Stars are indeed talking trade with just over two weeks to go to the March 21 NHL Trade deadline." D'Amico said.
According to Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now, the Canadiens and Stars have been scouting each other quite a bit over the last several weeks. Montreal's head of pro scouting Eric Crawford was in attendance for Dallas' game on Friday night against the Winnipeg Jets.
"The Stars and the Canadiens have been linked to each other in NHL trade rumours for some time now, and things got a little spicier on Friday evening when Eric Crawford, the Canadiens' head of pro scouting took in the game between the Stars and the Winnipeg Jets." D'Amico added.
One name that the Stars are likely looking at is defenceman Jeff Petry, who they've been linked to since early-February. During February 1st's edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Pierre LeBrun reported that the Stars could emerge as a team with interest in Jeff Petry.
A move for Jeff Petry would all but confirm that the Stars are moving on from John Klingberg, who is a pending unrestricted free agent and he reportedly requested a trade in early-January.
Before the Montreal Canadiens acquired Andrew Hammond from the Minnesota Wild, they reportedly touched base with the Stars regarding Anton Khudobin, who's found himself in the American Hockey League for six games this season, while only appearing in nine games for the big club.
With the trade deadline fast approaching, it'll be interesting to keep an eye on the Stars and Canadiens to see if they do complete a trade.
