Jon Cooper's future in Tampa Bay confirmed

Today the Tampa Bay Lightning have made an interesting move regarding their head coach Jon Cooper heading into the offseason. Reports are confirming that the two sides have agreed to a new contract extension.

This morning NHL insider David Pagnotta took to X to confirm that Lightning head coach Jon Cooper will be staying with the team. His report confirms that Jon Cooper has been extended through 2025-26.

I'm told #GoBolts HC Jon Cooper had signed an extension and is under contract through the 2025-26 season.

The announcement comes hours after GM Julien BriseBois confirmed to another source that Jon Cooper had term on his contract and did not need an extension like many had assumed he did.

The timing of this extension is certainly poor from a public opinion side of things. Just days ago Jon Cooper was under major fire for an insensitive comment he made in a post-game press conference.

"We might has well put skirts on them then... I think we're letting the goalies off the hook."

While no one expected Jon Cooper to be fired for these comments maybe the Tampa Bay Lightning could've waited until Jon Cooper apologized before giving him this reward. Either way, the Tampa Bay Lightning secure their bench boss for another season.

Now all eyes will be on star forward Steven Stamkos. He heads into the offseason without a contract for next season and an uncertain future in Tampa Bay. As any information is provided on the future of Jon Cooper or Steven Stamkos we will provide that update to you.
