Notable former head coach Bruce Boudreau has just taken to an interview and revealed exactly how he expects the Toronto Maple Leafs will lose in this year's playoffs.
Boudreau Reveals That Stopping Matthews Is the Key To Beating the Leafs
With the Toronto Maple Leafs taking a new approach to their roster this season in preparation for the playoffs, a lot of hockey fans are wondering if this style of team, a tougher, bigger team, will have what it takes to get it done in the playoffs.
However, Bruce Boudreau has revealed that the key to winning against the Leafs has nothing to do with physicality. If you want to beat the Leafs, he says, you just have to shut off Auston Matthews.
«Stop Matthews and you stop the Leafs,» Boudreau declared. «The others are good, but he's like the head of the snake.»
Matthews is of course the Leafs' best player, and arguably the best player in the entire NHL. Stopping him is easier said than done. However, Boudreau does have a point in that he is the sole reason for a lot of games won, and the entire top 6 will have to contribute to the Leafs' success.
Leafs Make Statement In Final Game Against Boston Ahead of Likely Postseason Matchup
The Toronto Maple Leafs made a big statement the other night against the Bruins, the team that is likely going to be their first-round matchup if all plays out the way it appears to be going. With that in mind, Leafs players were sure not to be taken advantage of, making a statement on the toughness of the squad.
Hopefully, this is what the Leafs need to win in the postseason this year, and Auston Matthews can continue his success.
