Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin has been known to be quite the comedian during his time in the NHL. Thursday was just another instance of him expressing this side of himself.

After taking a maintenance day on Wednesday, the star winger trounced onto the ice before the team's practice, skated for a short period of time, and then abandoned the ice again. Ovechkin talked to head coach Peter Laviolette, before the two ultimately agreed upon him not practicing.

Of course whenever the Great Eight doesn't practice, the Washington media is going to go crazy. Soon after practice, the team gathered in the media room awaiting questions from reporters. Ovechkin had other ideas though.

Ovi walked by the open door, stopped for a moment, smiled, shrugged, and abruptly walked away without uttering a single word. This brought even more confusion to the reporters that were so desperately trying to figure out the reason for Ovechkin not practicing.

Laviolette did expose later that the team's captain has been struggling with an upper body injury, and he was only held out of practice for precautionary reasons in order for him to be ready for this weekend. The Caps will be back in action Saturday when they take on the New York Islanders.
