A tragic story out of Brunswick, Connecticut on Thursday, as it has been confirmed by police that a high school hockey player died after sustaining an injury in the rink.

In a scheduled game at 5 p.m, there was a game taking place between Brunswick School and St. Luke's School. During the game, «a player from the other team fell to the ice,» according to a statement from Geenwich police.

«Another player who was near the downed player was unable to stop, and collided with the player who fell,» said police Capt. Mark Zuccerella.

The downed player was taken to the Greenwich Hospital and passed away as a result of the injury. Thomas Philip, who is the Brunswick Head of School, said he met with the head of school at St. Luke's School, Mark Davis. He also confirmed that he contacted the boy's family to offer any and all support. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the player who passed in this very tragic situation.
