According to well known player agent Allan Walsh, a skate shortage supply is having a major impact on many NHL players.

Walsh mentioned the reason for the shortage is due to factories in China that produce them being very backed up, which has made it tough for players to get custom skates. He claims that some players are scouring retail store websites for skates in their size and width, something that isn't at all common for an NHL player to do.

While this may not seem like a big deal to most, many NHL players are extremely particular about their gear, and skates in particular. Many go through several pairs per season, and this could play a significant impact on that. In fact, in an article from Sportsnet a few seasons back, it was said that the average player goes through a new pair every six weeks. That seems outrageous to most people, but you have to keep in mind the wear and tear that would occur with an NHLers skates given that they are on the ice every single day. Hopefully this issue can get resolved soon so these players can continue to perform at an elite level.
