The Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and World Junior Championship will be receiving enhanced protocols from the Alberta government. According to Sportsnet, the home games will now be limited to just 50 percent capacity in order to fight the surge against COVID-19.

The 2022 World Juniors start on December 26 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.

Eating and drinking is another restriction that will be enforced at the games.

"Hockey Canada fully support the direction taken by the Province of Alberta, and we will continue to do our part to maintain the health and safety of all World Juniors participants and the community at large," Hockey Canada chief executive officer Tom Renney and president and chief operating officer Scott Smith said in a joint statement.

This announcement was shortly after the NHL stated that they would be pausing the season Wednesday through Christmas Day because of COVID-19 concerns. Hopefully the extra protocols are enough to keep both the tournament and home games going.
