Hockey fans are a passionate bunch all over the world, but every now and then we get an example of someone taking the love of their team a bit too seriously. Linköping HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) has been having a rough time on the ice lately, losing their last two games 4-1 and 5-1. After their latest loss on Saturday, the team says an employee received a direct threat from a fan in their inbox on a social media account.

"It is not uncommon for the fans to complain. We should be grateful for that," said Linköping's chairman Roger Ekström. "A healthy fan culture is an important part of sport. But when it goes to pure personal attacks and expressions like threats, then it has gone too far."

Ekstrom said it was not a player who had been threatened, but that the threat was directly connected to the team.

"We felt that we had to take our employer responsibility and report it to the police," said Ekstrom, adding a meeting would also be taking place with players and other team staff to give them an opportunity to blow off some steam and have a productive dialogue.

Ekstrom did not say specifically what threat had been made, although one can likely figure out at least the basics of it on their own.

"Unfortunately, it's always like that on social media, that it's a few who are very noisy. Now we lost on Saturday, the second game in a row. And Saturday nights are over-represented in the inbox, I guess you could say."
