Ralfs Freibergs of the KHL's Riga Dynamo is going to sit for a few games after a knee-on-knee hit on an opponent that, if not intentional, was certainly avoidable. In a game over the weekend between Riga and Moscow Dynamo, Freibergs took out the knee of Vladislav Yefremov with an extended leg. Check it out:

Freibergs received a five minute major and was tossed from the game. After review, the KHL has suspended him for three games. He has also been fined, although the amount has not been announced.

It is not yet known how much time Yefremov will miss as a result of the hit. He sat on the bench for a while after it happened in obvious pain before heading to the back. He did not return. I can't help but think that a similar hit in the NHL would receive a longer suspension.
