Details emerge regarding Mathieu Perreault's injury

Prior to puck drop in today's game between Montreal and Anaheim, the Canadiens announced that forward Mathieu Perreault would miss two-to-three weeks with an eye injury.

According to Eric Engels of Sportsnet, Perreault had a small laser procedure to fix his right eye after his retina detached. Engels added that the 33-year-old born with a condition called Lattice Retinal Degeneration.

"Mathieu Perreault started having some double vision and doctors realized his retina had detached. He found out he's got a condition called Lattice Retinal Degeneration. Had a small laser procedure to cure right eye and will be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks," Engels said in a tweet on Sunday afternoon.

He added, "This is something Perreault was born with but never knew about until something went wrong. Wishing him a speedy recovery and hoping he never goes through it again."

The Drummondville, Quebec native signed a one-year contract with the Canadiens back in late-July. In eight games this season, he's tallied four points (three goals, one assist), four penalty minutes, and is a plus-three.
