Early into the 2021-22 season, there has been frustration from players, front offices, and fans of teams who have been affected due to positive COVID-19 tests.

Examples of teams who have been impacted are the Winnipeg Jets and the Colorado Avalanche, who lost their respective elite centers in Mark Scheifele and Nathan MacKinnon for multiple games due to positive COVID-19 tests. These came despite the fact that both players were fully vaccinated and asymptomatic, and they aren't the only two players it's happened to early in the season. As a result, the NHL may soon be changing the way testing is done.

According to Daily Faceoff, the NHL and its team of medical experts are debating whether or not players showing no symptoms should be tested moving forward. This would mean that moving forward, only players who are showing COVID-19 symptoms would be tested. The NHL has yet to comment on it, meaning it is far from a sure thing, but it seems to make sense and would make things much easier on teams from now on.
