A hot mic during Tuesday's Wild and Oilers game caught one of the broadcast analysts taking a cheap shot at goaltenders.

The comment came during a lull in the action, with the crew apparently unaware the audio was going out live.

We won't repeat it here. The clip is circulating on social media, and you're welcome to listen for yourself and draw your own conclusion.

Here's ours. It was extremely out of line, and it's a moment the person behind that mic would love to have back.

Hot mic moments are sometimes harmless and funny. Other times, they cost people their jobs.

A hot mic is like a toddler in the back seat. The moment you forget it's listening, it repeats the one thing you didn't want shared.

Broadcasting live demands precision and professionalism every second the light is on. One careless sentence can undo years of credibility.

Some Wild and Oilers fans agree, but that misses the point

Scroll through the replies and you'll find fans nodding along. Plenty of viewers have strong opinions about goaltenders.

That doesn't change the setting. A sports broadcast isn't a group chat, and the people paid to call games are held to a different standard.

Goalies already take the blame for every bad bounce. They don't need it from the booth too.

It's unclear whether anyone will face discipline for it.

The timing is ironic, too. Jesper Wallstedt has been one of Minnesota's best players, with six wins and a .922 save percentage.

On the other side, Devon Levi has won four of his five games for Edmonton.

Both teams came in with 13 points, which made this one of the more meaningful early-season matchups in the West.

None of that is what people will remember from the broadcast.

Somewhere, a producer is probably double-checking every mic switch before the next puck drop. The real question is whether an apology comes first, or a consequence.
