The Red Wings have been at a standstill with Dylan Larkin, and Elliotte Friedman thinks Simon Edvinsson could open the door to two trades.
Friedman raised the idea on 32 Thoughts on Oct. 5, and NHL Rumour Report resurfaced it tonight.
His point was simple. Edvinsson might give Detroit a chance to get something it either wasn't willing or couldn't get done with Larkin.
In Friedman's words, there's an opportunity to make two trades here.
Detroit should take both. Half a rebuild is how a franchise ends up stuck in the middle for years.
Trying to retool halfway is like renovating the kitchen in a house with a leaking roof. It looks nice for a while, then the ceiling caves in.

Shawn Horcoff faces massive Red Wings decision as two trades loom
Detroit couldn't score in regulation or overtime in Montreal tonight, falling 1-0 in a shootout.
Larkin played in that game, in the same city Friedman said people have tried to talk him into.
That came one night after a 6-3 home loss to Seattle.
The Red Wings are now 1-3-1 and have scored just 10 goals.
Edvinsson remains unsigned and back in Sweden, with TSN's Pierre LeBrun reporting that 10 teams have poked around.
Horcoff has said he'd prefer to re-sign the young defenseman rather than move him.
NHL scout Dennis King said there are whispers Detroit wants to build around Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond.
Raymond has 4 assists but no goals on an $8,075,000 cap hit.
Alex DeBrincat leads the team with 5 points, and his name has surfaced in trade talk too.
Does an interim GM really get to pull off two franchise-altering deals in one season?
Marco Kasper is out until at least Oct 20, while J.T. Compher and Mason Appleton are out until at least Oct 13.
Detroit hosts New Jersey on Tuesday and Philadelphia on Thursday.
A standstill only lasts until somebody blinks. Friedman just handed the Red Wings a reason to move first.
Should the Red Wings trade both Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson?
