Darnell Nurse had a line ready for Mark Spector, and the Sharks defenseman delivered it with a straight face.
“You know, for a low IQ, I don't know if I'm able to answer your question,” Nurse said in a clip that made the rounds Friday.
According to the account that posted it, the 31-year-old was responding to past criticism from Spector during his time in Edmonton, reportedly including a comment about his IQ.
The clip shows Nurse at his stall with his gear hanging overhead, barely looking up as he says it.
Pete Blackburn summed up the reaction on social media: it has to feel so good.
Good for him. Columnists can dish it out, and they should be able to take one back now and then.
It's like the guy who got roasted all through high school showing up to the reunion in a nicer car. He barely has to say a word.

Mark Spector probably didn't expect this response from Darnell Nurse
Edmonton won 3-1 in San Jose on Saturday, one day after the clip surfaced.
Nurse has a goal through five games, and it was a game-winner, on a $9,250,000 cap hit.
He also sits at -1, so the on-ice side of his San Jose start is still a work in progress.
Edmonton improved to 4-0-1 behind Connor McDavid's 13 points.
The Sharks fell to 3-2-0, and Macklin Celebrini leads them with 6 points.
The veteran is surrounded by a young core there, with Celebrini, Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson all 20 or younger.
Whether Spector responds is the next chapter of this one.
Does this become a regular thing every time San Jose and Edmonton share a building?
The Sharks host Boston on Tuesday, while Edmonton visits Los Angeles the same night.
San Jose and Edmonton meet three more times this season, starting Jan. 13 in Edmonton.
Nurse plays in San Jose now, but his years in Edmonton clearly aren't far from his mind. Neither, apparently, is everything that was written about him.
Was Darnell Nurse right to call out Mark Spector publicly?
