Jonathan Toews is in Chicago for Patrick Kane's official United Center return tonight, and the Chicago Blackhawks couldn't have scripted the homecoming much better.

Charlie Roumeliotis shared the news Tuesday, calling it amazing, and his post took off right away.

In his photo, Kane stands at the bench door in red No. 88 beside a smiling man in a cap and hoodie, with a teammate in Bedard's No. 98 in the foreground.

This is exactly what a home opener should feel like. Whatever the record says, some nights are bigger than two points.

It's the old bandmate showing up front row when the lead singer plays the hometown show again.

Why is it official tonight? It's Chicago's first home game of the season after three straight on the road.

Kane said last week he was down to Chicago and Buffalo this summer, and Sabres fans booed him every time he touched the puck on Saturday.

Kane has a goal and a -4 rating through three games.

The 37-year-old carries an $8,000,000 cap hit, the biggest on the roster.

The Blackhawks are 0-3-0 after losses in Vegas, Utah and Buffalo, and Jeff Blashill's group has been outscored 15-5.

Saturday's 4-3 loss in Buffalo was the closest they've come so far, against the team whose GM, Jarmo Kekalainen, made the first call to Kane in free agency, per Mike Harrington.

Andrew Mangiapane is out until at least October 25, and Bowen Byram missed Saturday's game to attend to a family matter.

Jim Montgomery's Blues come in 1-1-0, after a 4-0 win in Dallas and a 6-1 loss in Colorado. Joel Hofer posted the shutout in Dallas.

Dalibor Dvorsky has two goals for St. Louis, and Alexey Toropchenko is on injured reserve until at least November 14.

The Blackhawks visit the Islanders on Thursday.

Toews in the building will make for a great moment. A first win on top of it would make it a night Kane won't forget.
