Red Wings fans were chanting "sell the team" at the home opener, on the same night Dylan Larkin was booed as he was introduced with the scratches.

One game in, a 2-0 home loss to the Rangers, and the patience was already gone.

It stung even more given the opponent. New York was playing the second half of a back-to-back, and Detroit still couldn't find the net.

It's been a brutal week. Larkin is day-to-day and caught in trade talk, and Simon Edvinsson is back in Sweden without a contract.

Rival teams have called about Edvinsson, per Pierre LeBrun. Interim GM Shawn Horcoff is trying to steady all of it at once.

In the clip, the chant rolls through the stands loud enough for the national broadcast to pick it up clearly.

Shawn Horcoff and Todd McLellan face a fan base that's already done waiting

Todd McLellan is trying to coach through the noise. The Red Wings host Winnipeg on Sunday afternoon, and that building won't be any quieter.

Larkin's situation sits at the centre of it. He's played all 808 of his NHL games in Detroit, and the crowd booed him anyway.

The frustration is fair. Chanting it on opening night is embarrassing, though, and every free agent watching just added Detroit to the list of places where the fans turn fast.

It's like asking for the bill before the appetizers even arrive.

Jim Biringer already warned that "players talk." Nights like this give them plenty to talk about.

Detroit fans want change at the top. The problem is that every chant makes the players they want to keep, like Larkin and Edvinsson, a little more likely to leave.
