Dylan Larkin will report to Detroit Red Wings training camp, but not as captain.
Both sides released statements Friday addressing the situation directly for the first time all summer.
"Over the past couple of weeks, Red Wings leadership and I have had several in-depth discussions. I've appreciated those candid conversations, and I will be at training camp with my teammates," Larkin said.
"When new leadership is in place, we'll talk further about the direction of the team," he added.
"We will keep those conversations private, and I will keep my focus on the season ahead and on the guys in that room," Larkin said.
Detroit's own statement welcomed him back plainly. "We look forward to seeing Dylan and the rest of his teammates at Little Caesars Arena for the start of training camp," the team said.

On the trade request itself, the club stayed guarded. "Dylan is under contract as a member of the Detroit Red Wings," the statement read.
"Any conversations regarding his future will take place privately when a new hockey operations leader has been named," it continued.
"As such, we will not comment any further on this matter," the team added.
Then came the bigger reveal. "The Red Wings will begin the 2026-27 season without a captain being named," the statement continued.
Any further decisions on that front wait for the same new hockey operations leader everything else has been deferred to all summer.
That's the throughline connecting every piece of this saga. The trade request, the captaincy, even camp attendance all trace back to one empty GM chair.
Larkin posted 34 goals and 33 assists for 67 points last season, numbers that make this entire standoff feel even stranger.
Is showing up to camp without the captaincy actually a step toward resolution, or just a more visible version of the same limbo?
It's the workplace equivalent of returning to the office after a rocky stretch, minus the title, with everyone agreeing to revisit things once a new boss starts.
My take: reporting to camp is the right move for Larkin regardless of the captaincy question. Sitting out would have only made his situation harder to resolve.
Camp starts soon, and Detroit now enters it with its best player present, its captaincy vacant, and its biggest decisions still waiting on a GM who doesn't exist yet.
