Alex Ovechkin just filmed his role in a Russian comedy movie before heading back to the Washington Capitals.
He's shooting scenes for "Hockey Dads 2," a sequel about youth hockey fathers now reuniting with their grown kids for an international tournament.
Ovechkin is slotted for several scenes, according to Russian outlet Championat, alongside actor Aleksey Bardukov.
He's not the only hockey name in the cast either. Vladislav Tretiak and Alexei Kasatonov both appear in the film too.
This is now the second straight summer Ovechkin has taken on a Russian film project, having appeared in "Extra Time" last year with KHL star Vadim Shipachyov.
His acting résumé actually goes back further than that, including a cameo in the comedy series "Evgenich" and several other Russian TV and film credits.
North American fans mostly know him from commercials instead, the ESPN spy bit, the MassMutual ads with Nicklas Backstrom, the Papa John's delivery guy routine.

Because the hockey part of Ovechkin's calendar is about to get very real, very fast.
He's set to fly back to Washington on September 10th, with Capitals training camp opening a week later on September 17th.

That timing leaves almost no gap between wrapping a movie set in Russia and reporting for his 22nd NHL training camp.
Last season, at 40 years old, Ovechkin still put up 64 points, 32 goals and 32 assists, across all 82 games for Washington.
Washington finished 43-30-9, 12th overall in the league, riding a four-game winning streak into the finish under head coach Spencer Carbery.
The 2026-27 season is being described as potentially his last in the NHL, adding real weight to everything he does this year.
A comedy film role feels almost weightless next to that, and maybe that's exactly the point for a player entering a farewell campaign.
One more offseason cameo, one more Russian film credit, before stepping back into a locker room that still leans on him heavily.
Is a movie shoot really the story here, or is it just proof Ovechkin is enjoying whatever time remains before this chapter closes?
Either way, the acting stops soon. Camp starts in less than two weeks, and Washington needs the real version of him back on the ice.
