Kevin Korchinski and the Chicago Blackhawks got a contract done this week, and it's a real vote of patience from both sides.
Chicago re-signed the defenseman to a two-year deal worth $1,325,000 annually, locking him in as the organization keeps rebuilding its blue line.
Korchinski arrived as the 7th overall pick in the 2022 draft after a standout run with the Seattle Thunderbirds, posting 73 points in just 54 games in his draft-plus-one season.
The jump to the NHL hasn't gone as smoothly. His rookie year produced just 15 points in 76 games, and he's been shuttling between Chicago and the AHL ever since.
Last season split almost evenly: 13 games with the Blackhawks for 2 points, and 53 games with the Rockford IceHogs for 26 points.
Over his NHL career so far, Korchinski has managed just 19 points in 105 games, numbers that explain why this deal is short and cheap rather than long and expensive.
