David Reinbacher and the Montreal Canadiens have made one thing clear all along: he's not part of any trade discussion, period.
Journalist Richard Labbé revealed the pattern this week on BPM Sports, describing years of trade talks where rival teams kept asking for Reinbacher specifically.
"Every single time, the Canadiens hung up and said no thanks," Labbé said, "because if you're asking for David Reinbacher in return, the answer is no."
That's a remarkable level of protection for a player who's barely played in the NHL yet.
Montreal took Reinbacher 5th overall in the 2023 draft, but injuries have limited him to just 2 games and 1 assist at the NHL level so far.
He's still on his entry-level deal at an $886,666 cap hit, a number that hasn't come close to reflecting how much the organization actually values him.
Labbé also reported something bigger: Montreal's management now wants to finally give Reinbacher a real opportunity with the NHL club this season.

Is refusing to trade a player this many times the same as confirming he's actually ready? Not necessarily, but it says plenty about the organization's conviction.
Fans have waited years to see what this pick actually looks like in a real NHL role, not just as a name teams keep asking about.
Whether Reinbacher justifies that protection starts getting answered the moment training camp opens in a few weeks.
