The tragic and untimely death of former NHLer Jimmy Hayes earlier this offseason rocked the hockey world, leaving many, including Hayes' family, wondering what led to the death of a seemingly healthy 31-year-old man. One cause of death that has now officially been ruled out is foul play.
On Friday, the Norfolk County District Attorney's office revealed the news to PEOPLE, also confirming that a death certificate had been issued - though the contents of the certificate were not available at that time.
Hayes had played parts of 7 NHL seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils. He retired from professional hockey in 2019 and started up a podcast with another pair of former NHLers in Scottie Upshall and Shane O'Brien called "Missin Curfew".
Hayes was found deceased in his home on August 23rd, just one day after his son's 2nd birthday party.
