Connor Hellebuyck is back in trade chatter, and Scott Arniel now faces another round of questions about Winnipeg's crease.

A new trade proposal has linked the Winnipeg Jets goaltender to the Buffalo Sabres, with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Jack Quinn presented as the main pieces heading the other way.

Nothing has been finalized, and the framework remains speculation. But the names involved make this one difficult to brush aside as routine offseason noise.

Buffalo would be taking the biggest swing. Hellebuyck carries an $8.5 million cap hit and remains the kind of established starter capable of changing how a contender approaches its crease.

For Winnipeg, the decision would cut much deeper than moving a high-priced player. Hellebuyck has been central to the Jets' identity, workload and expectations for years.

Luukkonen would give Winnipeg an immediate option in goal rather than leaving a massive hole. Quinn would bring another skilled forward into a lineup that would suddenly look very different entering camp.

The bigger question is whether that package gives the Jets enough value to justify moving one of the most recognizable players in the organization.

Buffalo would be betting big on Connor Hellebuyck

The Sabres' side of the proposal is easy to understand. Instead of waiting for their current goaltending group to take another step, Buffalo would be adding a proven No. 1 immediately.

That would also put more pressure on Winnipeg's front office. Moving Hellebuyck would signal more than a simple roster adjustment, especially with the Jets trying to determine how aggressively they want to reshape the club.

Quinn adds another layer because Winnipeg wouldn't simply be targeting a replacement goaltender. The Jets would also be gaining a young winger with room for a bigger offensive role.

For Arniel, any deal would force an immediate reset. The Jets would enter training camp with a new hierarchy in the crease and a major piece of their lineup removed.

Buffalo, meanwhile, would be accepting the risk that comes with sending away 2 younger roster pieces for one established star. That's the price attached to chasing certainty at the most demanding position.

There is no confirmed transaction here. But if Buffalo and Winnipeg return to the table, Hellebuyck's name would instantly turn those talks into one of the NHL's biggest offseason stories.
