Patrick Kane didn't waste time drawing a line with his old team during his introductory presser in Chicago.
"Most importantly, it was about coming to a team where I think I can fit in well," Kane said. "A team that's on the rise...and trying to making the playoffs."
That phrasing could be seen as a subtle jab at the Detroit Red Wings.
Kane put up 16 goals and 41 assists for 57 points across 67 games last season, adding four game winning goals along the way.
He also finished at minus-1 on the year, solid production even on a roster that struggled to find offense most nights.
Except the numbers don't back up the dig. Detroit actually finished with a better record than the Blackhawks group Kane just signed with.
Kane leans into the mic and pauses right before saying "rise," like he already knew exactly how that line would land.

Detroit closed last year 41-31-10 for 92 points and a minus-17 differential under head coach Todd McLellan.

Chicago, meanwhile, finished 29-39-14 for just 72 points, a minus-62 differential that ranked near the bottom of the entire league.
Kyle Davidson has been Chicago's GM since October 2021, and head coach Jeff Blashill just took over in May 2025.
Steve Yzerman has run Detroit's front office since April 2019, giving that franchise a stability Chicago still doesn't have.
Calling a 72 point team "on the rise" while knocking a 92 point Detroit club is either confidence or straight up spin. Maybe both.
Kane is betting his name still moves the needle in Chicago.
Whether the record catches up to the rhetoric is the whole storyline now.
