Vancouver reportedly already finalized their new GM hire behind closed doors
The Vancouver Canucks rumor mill kicked back up Sunday with a name that local fans started passing around quickly.
Dominic Tiano posted that some reports have the Canucks hiring Evan Gold. The post came with the caveat that nothing is official yet.
Jimmy Murphy followed up the same day with his own reporting. He said the situation is very close but no signature has happened.
That's the entire confirmed substance right now. Two voices, one direction, no formal announcement.
The bigger context is what Vancouver looks like as it heads into this kind of decision. The Canucks finished 32nd overall at 25-49-8 for 58 points.
Adam Foote's first year behind the bench ended without a single playoff game. The team scored 216 goals and gave up 316, a goal differential of minus-100.

If Murphy and Tiano are reading this right, Vancouver gets its name out by midweek. If not, the rumor joins the pile of others that didn't quite land.
Either way, the Canucks have to do something different this offseason. The math from last year doesn't allow for another version of the same plan.
