Major report connects Oilers to former Leafs breakout player
Bobby McMann and Kris Knoblauch are now tied to a free-agent idea that makes real sense for Edmonton.
The Oilers need more than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to carry the offense, and that is why McMann's name jumps off the page right away.
This is a roster fit story before it is anything else. Edmonton needs another winger who can skate, finish chances, and still bring weight to a line when the game gets tighter.
McMann checks those boxes. He is coming off a season where he played 78 games between Toronto and Seattle and put up 29 goals, 17 assists, and 46 points.
He also brought 165 hits, which matters for an Oilers team that still looks too easy to play against for long stretches. You are not just adding a scorer here. You are adding a winger who can play through people.
That is why Allan Mitchell's push has some bite. McMann is not being framed as a luxury add. He is being framed as a player who could actually change the feel of Edmonton's middle six.
The other part Edmonton will like is the timing in his game. McMann looked strong after the trade to Seattle, which suggests this was not some empty early-season spike that faded out.
Edmonton has a clear reason to push
In 18 games with the Kraken, McMann scored 10 goals and added 14 points. He also threw 30 hits, which says the edge stayed in his game even as the offense climbed.
That kind of stretch is exactly why he will have a market. A winger with size, pace, and finishing touch does not stay hidden when free agency gets closer.
For Edmonton, the appeal is simple. McDavid and Draisaitl still drive everything, but the Oilers need another forward who can cash in without needing perfect conditions every night.
McMann also feels like the kind of player who could help in different spots. He can bring offense to a scoring line or give the bottom six more push when the bench needs a jolt.
The problem is obvious too. Seattle watched him take off after the trade, so the Kraken have every reason to try to keep him before July 1.
That is what makes this worth watching. Edmonton has a real need, McMann fits it cleanly, and his best hockey may have arrived at exactly the right time for him to cash in.
If the Oilers want a winger who can score, hit, and give their forward group more bite, Bobby McMann looks like one of the sharper names on the board.
