"Well I think I'm good, ya know? I can't really get much dumber," he said, brushing off seven games of Tampa Bay punishment with one line.
He confirmed he didn't miss any time during the first-round series. The protocol happened. He cleared it. Then he kept playing.
That matters because Round 2 starts tonight in Buffalo. The Habs and Sabres drop the puck on a fresh series after Montreal eliminated the Lightning 4-3 last Sunday.
Slafkovsky finished the Tampa series with 3 goals, 0 assists, and a -4 rating across 7 games. Three of those goals came on the power play.
The l5 line tells a different story. Zero points. A -1 rating. The Lightning physically wore him down, even if the Slovak winger refuses to admit it cost him anything.
This is where the Canadiens get interesting. Nick Suzuki carried the offense in Round 1 with 6 points. The top six needs more from the 22-year-old left winger to take pressure off the captain.
His regular season ended at 30 goals and 73 points in 82 games. He's a top-six engine when he's locked in, not a passenger riding shotgun on Suzuki's wing.
Martin St-Louis leaned heavily on his power-play unit against Tampa, and the kid delivered there. The 5-on-5 game? That's the next test.
Buffalo is a different animal. Less grind, more skill, more open ice. If Slafkovsky's body is genuinely fine, this matchup suits him better than the wall-to-wall hits Tampa threw at him.
There's something refreshing about a 22-year-old answering a media scrum with "I can't really get much dumber." Most guys recite the same scripted nothing. He just shrugs and moves on.

Whether that confidence translates to production at Buffalo's pace is the question Habs fans take into puck drop. The series doesn't wait for him to find his legs.
The Sabres open at home with rest. Montreal arrives off a seven-game war. Slafkovsky's health might be the difference between stealing Game 1 and falling behind early in another long series.
