Late last week, it was reported that unrestricted free agent forward Evgeny Svechnikov and the Winnipeg Jets had mutual interest in getting a contract done. Flash forward to Friday and the 24-year-old will join the Jets at training camp on a professional tryout offer (PTO) according to Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet.

"Hearing that mutual interest between #NHLJets and UFA F Evgeny Svechnikov has led initially to a Pro Tryout Offer. Svechnikov had a shoulder issue cleaned up in May and the expectation is he should be cleared to play around training camp. Once healthy, look for a two-way deal," Wiebe said in a tweet on Friday.

Since then, it has been announced that Svechnikov has signed a one-year deal with the Manitoba Moose, the Jets AHL team, and he will attend Winnipeg's training camp on a professional tryout in the hopes of earning an NHL contract.

The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia native spent the 2020-21 season with the Detroit Red Wings and their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. In 21 games for Detroit, Svechnikov had 8 points (3 G, 5 A), 10 penalty minutes, and was a -3.
