The Frolunda Indians, a member of the Swedish Hockey League since the 1990s, is no more. The team has announced it is officially dropping the "Indians" part of its name effective September 1st. For the upcoming SHL season, it will simply be known as Frolunda HC. However, the "Indian Head" logo will remain, for now.

In a news release, the team said it received over 700 submissions for a new logo and wants more time to go through them all before deciding on a new one. Therefore, the Indian Head will remain on the team's jerseys for the 2021-22 season, even though the reference in the name has been dropped.

The "Indians" nickname was adopted in 1995 and was a reference to the team's style of play. Frolunda included several North American players at the time and games would get rough, with announcers and fans describing it as a "wild west" type of atmosphere. However, the nickname started to become a turnoff for many fans beginning around 2015, with even Sweden's Discrimination Ombudsman calling it offensive. In September of 2020, Frolunda announced a name and logo change would be coming and asked for submissions from fans.

Frolunda is a major entity in the SHL and has won the Champions Hockey League tournament four times recently, in 2015–16, 2016–17, 2018–19 and 2019–20. That tournament includes several teams from top tier leagues throughout Europe.
