The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Monday that they've re-signed restricted free agent forward Alexander Nylander to a one-year deal worth $874,125. Nylander was the final free agent remaining for the Blackhawks to sign and the team is now a few million dollars over the cap, but will lower that by placing Andrew Shaw's contract on LTIR according to CapFriendly.

"With Alex's pedigree and being only 23-years-old, we feel as if there is still plenty of room for growth in his game. He is just scratching the surface of the type of player we feel he is capable of becoming," said President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Stan Bowman. "This will be an important season for him to perform consistently and contribute offensively. His size and skill are a unique combination that make him an intriguing option for our coaching staff to utilize anywhere in the lineup."

Nylander, 23, missed the entire 2020-21 season after having left knee surgery in late-December. The surgery was to fix a torn meniscus he suffered during the Blackhawks series against Vegas in August 2020. The 2019-20 season was Alex's first in Chicago, and first full year in the NHL after being dealt from Buffalo. In 65 games that year, he tallied 26 points (10 G, 16 A), 10 penalty minutes, and was a -2.
