Former Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen took to social media on Thursday to say goodbye to the fans in Toronto.

"It's been a privilege and an honor to represent the Maple Leafs and play in front of the great fans and people in the city of Toronto. Thank you for all the memories and friendships that will last a lifetime," Andersen said.

The Herning, Denmark native signed a two-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on the opening day of free agency after spending five years in Toronto. Andersen missed significant time during the 2020-21 season due to a knee injury, and in his absence, Jack Campbell took over the crease and did a solid job. To replace Andersen, the Maple Leafs turned to former Hurricanes netminder Petr Mrazek and signed him to a three-year deal.

Andersen, 31, played in 268 regular season games for Toronto from 2016 to 2021 where he had a record of 149-74-36 with a 2.79 G.A.A., a .914 save percentage, and 13 shutouts.
