The Anaheim Ducks announced the heartbreaking news of a long-term injury to one of their key veterans which will force him to miss the rest of the season.

After many years of struggle, the Ducks came into the 2024-25 NHL season with a lot of hope, with key young players starting the year with more experience than they had last year. Also, they made a massive move early in the season when they acquired Jacob Trouba from the New York Rangers on the trade market.

But now, halfway through the regular calendar, the team is still seventh in the Pacific Division, with 42 points, only eight points ahead of the San Jose Sharks at the last seed in the division.

For over a month now, Trevor Zegras has been sidelined, recovering from knee surgery.

Just as it seems it couldn't get any worse for the Ducks, another disappointing injury update was made by the organization.

Indeed, the team announced that the veteran Brock McGinn will miss the rest of the season after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

McGinn, 30, is currently in the final season of his four-year, $2,750,000 AAV contract, meaning that unless the Ducks sign him to an extension before the start of the next season, his time in Anaheim is likely over.

This season, in 26 games with the Ducks, McGinn scored eight points, including four goals, with a +1 rating.

In his career, he took part in 534 NHL games for the Carolina Hurricanes, who drafted him 47th overall back in 2012, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Ducks.

He also played 47 playoff games, scoring 14 points, including seven goals, through four different attempts at winning the Stanley Cup.

We wish him the best for his recovery and the next chapter of his professional hockey career.
