Jacob Trouba Confirms Rumour About New York Rangers After Being Traded to the Anaheim Ducks

Former New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba confirmed today a major rumor surrounding the team after he was traded to the Ducks.

Earlier this afternoon, the Rangers sent shockwaves around the league after they delt Trouba to the Ducks in exchange for Urho Vaakanainen and a 4th round draft pick.

The move was not entirely unexpected as the Ranger's season has fallen apart.

Furthermore, Trouba has been involved in trade rumors going back to last summer, so the fact that he was the first domino to fall is again, unsurprising.

The way in which this all happened may come as a surprise to many fans though.

As it turns out, the Rangers were prepared to play ultimate hardball with Trouba and they did so throughout the process.

According to Trouba, Rangers general manager Chris Drury threatened to place him on waivers if he did not waive his no-trade clause to go to one of the teams with an offer for him.

The threat is very reminiscent of another crude move the Rangers front office made this summer.

Veteran forward Barclay Goodrow was placed on waivers this June and was subsequently claimed by the San Jose Sharks.

Like Trouba, that move reportedly came after Goodrow refused to waive his trade protection to return to his former club.

With that move in mind, it would seem as though Drury was serious when he gave Trouba the same ultimatum.

It should be interesting to see how both Trouba and the Rangers react to this move.

For the Rangers, it is clear that they needed to move his cap, as they immediately signed Igor Shesterkin to an eight-year contract extension after the trade.

For Trouba, he just went to a rebuilding team all the way across the country when he clearly wanted to stay in the Big Apple.

The two teams will face each other on March 28th, so be sure to tune in for that one to see if any hard feelings carry over on the ice.
