The Calgary Flames had hoped to turn things around after shifting from Geoff Ward to Darryl Sutter behind the bench this season. However, things have gotten off to a rather slow start for the Flames and now they find themselves in 6th place in the North Division with little hope of making the postseason.

In an attempt to spark the offense, Sutter has elected to juggle his forward lines, pairing wingers Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau with Elias Lindholm on the Flames' top line.

Following practice on Thursday, Sutter met with the media and was asked by The Calgary Sun's Danny Austin whether or not he felt that Tkachuk and Gaudreau would be able to generate offense together at even-strength. His reply was one for the books.

"They've played together on the power play since Christ was a child, so they should be able to do it five-on-five," said Sutter.

Sutter is not exactly known for his political-correctness, but this one certainly takes the cake. Of course, Austin had a good laugh at the response.

Though the controversial comment has mostly been taken with a grain of salt and in good humour, it is likely that not everyone will find it tasteful - but this isn't exactly new for the veteran coach.

The Athletic's Hailey Salvian brought up a comment from Sutter back in 2012 that her editor, Rich Hammond, made her aware of, where Sutter used the same analogy to describe Nashville's home win-streak at the time.

"They haven't lost at home since Christ was a child."

Oh, Darryl..

There has not been any comment from the league as of this point.
