Two-time Stanley Cup champion and Hockey Hall-of-Famer Sergei Zobov, widely regarded as one of the best offensive defencemen to ever play the game, has reportedly landed himself a new head coaching position. According to Sport24.ru, Zubov and the KHL's Dinamo Riga have an agreement in principal for Zubov to take over the team, with an official deal and announcement coming before the end of this week.

Zubov is currently working as a consultant with the Dallas Stars, a team he won a Cup with in 1999. His other came with the New York Rangers in 1994. The Dallas Stars have announced that Zubov's no. 56 will be retired and his sweater will hang from the rafters. Zubov is the team's leader among defencemen in every major category.

Zubov has coached in the KHL before. The 50-year-old was hired by HC Sochi in 2017, but was let go in 2019 after a 5-11 start.

Zubov left the NHL as the league's all-time scoring leader for Russian-born defensemen with 152 goals and 771 points in 1068 regular season games. He is now 2nd behind Sergei Gonchar.
