Sheldon Keefe reportedly signs on to coach new NHL team

According to several reports, Sheldon Keefe has an agreement in place to coach another NHL team after being fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier this month

It hasn't been quite two weeks yet since Sheldon Keefe was fired as the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs after another first round loss in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, this one to the Boston Bruins. But, it doesn't look like Keefe had any intentions of taking a holiday. According to several reports, he has a new job in place.

In his latest 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman said he believes the job was offered to Keefe, and all he has to do is accept it to make it official.

It is believed the Devils also interviewed former Edmonton Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft, as well as Todd McLellan, who was fired by the LA Kings in the 2023-24 regular season. However, the frontrunner is Keefe, and the job is his if he wants it. TSN's Darren Dreger expects an announcement this week.

Keefe brings an excellent 212-97-40 regular season record to the table from his time in Toronto. The playoffs are different through. In five postseason appearances with the Maple Leafs, Keefe got the team past the first round just once, and was eliminated in the second round that year. With Toronto hiring Craig Berube, and Keefe apparently taking over the Devils, we'll get to see whether it was the fault of the coach, or the players.
