The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing another chance at elimination again tonight as they face the Boston Bruins at home for game six. Now fans of the team are outraged after the officials for the game were announced, including Boston native Chris Rooney.
The officials for game six between the Bruins and Leafs were announced this afternoon, ahead of the 8PM EST start time. It is the only game on tonight, marking the first time this year there is only a single playoff game on. The referees will be veterans Chris Rooney and Dan O'Rourke while the linesmen will be Ryan Daisy and Devin Berg.

Notably, Chris Rooney is a Boston Native. Linesman Ryan Daisy is also from Massachusetts. Dan O'Rourke is from Calgary and Devin Berg is from Gads Hill Ontario. Leafs fans are not happy with the fact that one of the referees is from the Bruins home town.
Am I the only one who thinks that someone from Boston should not be allowed to ref a playoff game that has the Bruins in it??? And that goes for any team, any location, any ref.
The sentiment was quite popular online, with many fans joining together to call out the NHL for the choice of officials. Whether or not the NHL wants to admit it, everyone has biases. As a result, putting an official that is from the same town as one of the teams playing, especially when the stakes are so high, does seem like a questionable idea at best.

All we can hope for as fans is that the officiating is not a factor in the game. Otherwise, we very well could see fans blow up if there is a controversy in this game.
