Earlier this week, reports came out that the NHL was planning on the Arizona Coyotes being relocated to Utah next season. Today, insider Elliotte Friedman effectively confirmed this by noting that the players have been informed.

Friedman reported just moments ago that the Coyotes informed their players this evening that the team would be relocated to Salt Lake City next season. Notably, the team's last game of the regular season falls next Wednesday on April 17th.

There is word tonight the Arizona Coyotes players were informed in a meeting they are going to Utah. Players and staff may be headed to Salt Lake City right after Wednesday's game to check out the facilities and the city

The announcement comes right as the Coyotes' game against the Edmonton Oilers started. Therefore, it seems as though the players may have only been informed just prior to the game starting. Earlier reports indicated that the players were more or less in the dark about the whole thing as they were only as informed as us fans.

It is now being reported that the announcement could come as early as next Wednesday, during the team's last game of the season. It would then be there last game at Mullett Arena

Per multiple sources, the Coyotes have been informed that relocation to Salt Lake City is real.
Now hearing it could actually be announced on April 17; the date of the Coyotes' final game at home vs. Edmonton.
It's going to be quite an atmosphere that night at Mullett Arena.

It is certainly a sad day for Coyotes fans. Hopefully the NHL will explore bringing hockey back to the state in the future but do it better next time.
