The Vegas Golden Knights have made many NHL fans furious with their use of the NHL's LTIR system, and while it's unfortunately legal, they've done it again.
After utilizing the loophole in the NHL's LTIR system for the past few years, it's been on full display again this season for the Golden Knights, as they've added several pieces to their roster with both Jack Eichel and Mark Stone out. Now, they've done it again, as the team officially placed William Carrier retroactively on LTIR to allow major deadline acquisition Tomas Hertl to take his place on the roster.
#VegasBorn have retroactively placed F William Carrier on LTIR in order to create the space needed to activate Tomas Hertl.
While fans may not like it (and they certainly don't), it's unfortunately very legal under the NHL's current rules, and when Carrier, Stone and Eichel all return for the playoffs, it will be a major advantage for the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
It's unclear just how long the Golden Knights organization can continue operating like this, because owners certainly need to have deep pockets to continue making moves like this, but for now they are chasing another Stanley Cup and will do anything to make that happen.
The Vegas Golden Knights have activated C Tomáš Hertl (knee) from Long-Term Injured Reserve.
Additionally, the Golden Knights have placed LW William Carrier (upper-body) on Long-Term Injured Reserve, retroactive to March 25.
