Veeti Miettien refuses to sign contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Despite a stellar college career at St. Cloud State, a former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick has no intention of signing with the team.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are rolling into the playoffs with the return of Mitch Marner incoming, but it's not all good in Toronto, as former sixth round draft pick Veeti Miettien is refusing to sign with the team as a free agent.

Drafted back in 2020, Miettien went on to play with St. Cloud State for four seasons, and while his numbers were solid (118 points in 146 games), it's the fact that he didn't take a single penalty over that time that shocks everyone. Standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 168 pounds, Miettien has had to rely on his skill and discipline at the college level, and now he's coming to the NHL, but not with the team that drafted him.

Leafs' prospect Veeti Miettinen is turning Pro.

However, the current indication is it won't be with the Leafs. He would be a UFA on August 15th.

The Maple Leafs have plenty of depth with the likes of Matthew Knies, Fraser Minten, Easton Cowan and many more forwards, and while it may not seem like a big blow right now, he could become a valuable NHLer down the line somewhere.
