Nico Hischier's injury-filled season continues after being placed on IR

New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier has faced another setback in what has been an injury-filled season thus far. The Devils announced on Thursday that 22-year old is week-to-week with a sinus fracture, and has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to February 27. Hischier was hit in the face by a slapshot from Devils defenceman P.K. Subban during Saturday's 5-2 loss against the Washington Capitals. In addition to being placed on IR, Hischier is also in concussion protocol.

Hischier, 22, has been limited to five games this season due to a leg injury at the before the start of training camp, and he was placed on the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list in early February.

Upon his return to the lineup on February 20th, Hischier was named the 12th captain in New Jersey Devils franchise history, as well as the third ever Swiss-born captain after Mark Streit (New York Islanders), and Roman Josi (Nashville Predators).

In five games this season, the Brig, Switzerland native has 3 points (1 G, 2 A), 2 penalty minutes, and is a +/-0.
