It appears that Sam Bennett of the Calgary Flames is once again on coach Geoff Ward's crap list. According to reports, Bennett will be a healthy scratch for the Flames' game against the Ottawa Senators tonight. It marks the second time this season that the 24-year-old will sit in the stands rather than be on the ice without facing any kind of injury.

Bennett was also scratched back in early February in a move that he said he never saw coming. Bennett, who is making $2.55 million dollars this season, has three goals and one assist in 22 games and is currently a minus-10.

Bennett's agent Darren Ferris told media that Bennett wants a trade, although Flames management denied ever receiving that request. That said, Calgary GM Brad Treliving said later in an interview that he and he alone would decide Bennett's fate regardless of any request from him and/or his agent.

When Bennett's current contract ends after this season, he will still be a restricted free agent. That means Calgary owns his rights, although the team could decide to not make him an offer and let him walk to total free agency to sign anywhere he wants. It's fair to say Bennett, who was drafted 4th overall in 2014, has never really materialized into the player the Flames were hoping he would. His best season came in 2015-16, his first full one on the NHL, when he had 18 goals and 36 points. In 52 games last season, Bennet had eight goals and 12 points.
