New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield to miss the rest of the season after surgery
The Islanders shared on X that
Scott Mayfield is expected to make a full recovery and be back next season after he underwent a major surgery.
Here's what they posted:
"#Isles Injury Update:
Scott Mayfield had successful season ending surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery and not have any issues with his summer training regiment.
This is a tough loss for the team as they make a push for the playoffs.
The Islanders are currently behind the Detroit Red Wings, Washington Capitals, and Tampa Bay Lightning in the race for a Wild Card spot. They are four points away from the Capitals, who are in second place and have one game in hand on the Isles.
While Mayfield struggled this season, especially at the Rangers Vs. Islanders outdoor game a few weeks ago, he brings a lot of experience to the team's blue line and he won't be so easily replaced.
It'll be up to head coach Patrick Roy to motivate his players to compete hard despite Mayfield's absence.
More to come.
