Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs hasn't played with his team since Mar. 7. We now have a major update on his health from TSN insider Darren Dreger.

It seems obvious that the Toronto Maple Leafs would want a star player like Mitch Marner in their lineup as much as possible. While recent reports indicate Mitch Marner is progressing in his recovery, he still hasn't been in the Maple Leafs lineup since a game against the Boston Bruins early this month. TSN's Darren Dreger has more information.

Dreger told Dreger told TSN 1050's First Up program that Mitch Marner is dealing with a high ankle sprain. While these types of injuries can be serious, Dreger said he fully believes Marner would be in the lineup if the Maple Leafs were battling for a playoff spot.

"I'm getting somewhat conflicting information. But I do think that the Maple Leafs are wise in this approach. I feel like if there were a playoff spot on the line, of course, he'd be playing Toronto Maple Leafs medical [staff] is running the show here, and Marner will be back when he's ready."

It's certainly good news for fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It sounds as though the team is taking extra caution with Mitch Marner's injury because management knows they can afford to do it. At one point in the season not that long ago, Toronto was just holding on to a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. However, the team is now firmly in third spot in the Atlantic Division with 12 games left to go.

Mitch Marner's injury was confirmed to be a high ankle sprain about a week after it happened. There was no fault on the part of an opposing player. It was just a routine fall during the game that didn't end well. While the Maple Leafs may be taking extra caution, history shows the team doesn't fare well when Mitch Marner is out.

"When their core players are inactive, the Leafs have had the least among of success minus Mitch Marner."
