According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, contract talks between the Carolina Hurricanes and defenceman Dougie Hamilton have stalled. Dialogue with the Hurricanes front office and Hamilton's camp have "gone quiet," LeBrun added. The TSN insider also said that the Hurricanes have no intention of dealing Hamilton by April 12th's trade deadline.

"Well, if he is, he'll be the No. 1 UFA on our board like Alex Pietrangelo was last off-season," LeBrun said. "Now, he wants to stay in Carolina. His agent had dialogue last month to start the talks of an extension with the Hurricanes. Each side essentially established their positions and frankly it's gone quiet ever since. I think there is a gap between the two positions. I would surmise that the player is more on the Pietrangelo side of things, and Carolina is more on the Torey Krug side of things in terms of salary. It's not like they're going to trade this guy before the deadline, they're all-in to win and they'll try to get this done before July 28."

Pietrangelo ended up signing a seven-year contract with Vegas worth $61 million in the off-season, and Krug signed with St. Louis for seven years and $45 million. Hamilton's contract is expected to be within the $6.5 million and $8.5 million AAV Krug and Pietrangelo are currently earning.

Hamilton, 27, is currently in the final year of a six-year, $34.5 million contract he signed with the Calgary Flames back in June 2015.

As LeBrun mentioned, Hamilton wants to stay in Carolina, and the Toronto, Ontario native has found plenty of success in part of three seasons with the Hurricanes. In 151 regular season games, he's tallied 93 points (33 G, 60 A), 103 penalty minutes, and is a +38. In 20 playoff games with Carolina, Hamilton has 9 points (4 G, 5 A), 14 penalty minutes, and is a +1.
