Last night, it was reported and soon after confirmed that the Montreal Canadiens had fired goaltending coach Stephane Waite, who had been with the team since 2013-14.

This morning, more details emerged as Habs reporter Arpon Basu says the firing came after the second period of last night's game versus the Ottawa Senators. General manager Marc Bergevin says that while the decision to fire Waite came earlier that day, he didn't want to tell him before the game in order to eliminate any and all possible distractions. Bergevin also says that he did not talk to goaltender Carey Price prior to the firing, and only informed him after it had happened. He maintains Price and Waite had a good relationship and that there was no fight between the two that led to the firing.

If Bergevin is telling the truth, this firing likely came down to Price's performance early on this season. The 33-year-old has struggled this far with a 2.96 goals against average and a .893 save percentage in 13 games. Ironically, last night's 3-1 win over the Ottawa Senators was one of his best games of the season, as he kicked aside 26 of 27 shots.
