The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced on Wednesday morning that they have fined Hurricanes forward Nino Niederreiter $5,000 for goaltender interference on Predators netminder Juuse Saros.

The incident occurred roughly five minutes into the first period. Saros left his crease to play the puck behind the net, when Niederreiter comes flying in and catches Saros in the head with his shoulder. Niederreiter was given a two-minute minor penalty for roughing on the play, but the Department of Player Safety decided to fine him, likely due to the fact there was contact made with Saros' head.

Saros left the game later in the first period, and did not return. The Predators announced that an update on Saros will come on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes and Predators will meet once again on Tuesday March 9th, in what could be heated tilt.
