The Toronto Maple Leafs certainly don't want to be without star player Mitch Marner for long. However, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe, Marner will be on the sidelines for a little while yet.

Sheldon Keefe told reporters that Mitch Marner is progressing well from a high ankle sprain suffered Mar. 7 against the Boston Bruins. However, Marner will not play in either of the Toronto Maple Leafs weekend games against Edmonton Oilers on Saturday or the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.

"Sheldon Keefe says Mitch Marner (high ankle sprain) skated the past few days

'That's progress for sure.'

Plan is to stay off the ice tomorrow

Not available to play this weekend (vs Oilers, at Hurricanes) "

It isn't clear exactly what happened in the game against the Boston Bruins that led to Mitch Marner getting a high ankle sprain. However, it's a safe bet that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Sheldon Keefe want him back in the lineup as soon as possible.

"this is so funny bc the only thing that happened to mitch was him falling 😭 but this begs the question: is marchand a witch and did he hex marner thus causing his injury?"

The Toronto Maple Leafs remain firmly in third place in the Atlantic Division

with 14 games left in the regular season.

Mitch Marner has not played since being injured during the game against the Boston Bruins on Mar. 7. Marner has been having a great season in 2023-24, putting up 25 goals and 76 points in 62 games so far. Toronto Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe is surely going to miss the winger in the lineup as he tries to end the season on a strong note before going into the playoffs.

The matchups on the schedule this weekend should provide a great test for Sheldon Keefe and the Toronto Maple Leafs as both the Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes are considered contenders to make it to the NHL's Stanley Cup Final. Beating either or both these teams should provide a big confidence boost to all of the players in the lineup.
