Mathew Barzal and the New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a new contract. The deal is for 3-years with a $7 million AAV. There were rumors that Barzal would hold out until he got a much higher salary, but this shows that he is being a true team player and taking a bit of a paycut.
The contract will be structured as seen below:
Year 1 includes $1 mil signing bonus, $3 mil salary. AAV $7 mil. https://t.co/ewYwbcUxmp— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) January 9, 2021
From what I'm hearing, Barzal's new AAV will be in the $7M neighborhood. https://t.co/SQattDfbqS— David Pagnotta (@TheFourthPeriod) January 9, 2021
Barzal will look to continue his rise to stardom after tallying 60 points in 68 games last season. During his 234 game NHL career the 23-year old is almost a point per game player with 207 points in 234 games. He should report to training camp as soon as possible.
