Unless you are living under a rock, you're well aware of the despicable and reprehensible acts of the Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. on Wednesday to contest the results of the 2020 Presidential Election in a truly historical event - and not the good kind of history either.

Some have labelled it "domestic terrorism", while others have dismissed it entirely as "stupid people doing stupid things". One thing I think we can all agree on is that it was not only unnecessary, but also unpatriotic, disrespectful and dangerous.

New Jersey Devils forward forward Kyle Palmieri had some choice comments for not only the perpetrators of the invasion, but also to his fellow Americans, as a whole, calling for change in all circles to avoid situations like this in the future.

"As an American, it's disheartening to see. The election is a pretty sacred thing to our democracy... it was a lot of sadness to see what happened [in Washington D.C.]. I know these next couple of weeks, as we transition to, hopefully, a better nation as a whole, I hope to see a lot of change from not only that part of the country, but I think everyone needs to take a second to think about how we treat other people and their beliefs and how we go about our every day lives."

Profound and insightful words from the soon-to-be 30-year-old winger as he prepares for a return to the game he loves after a lengthy layoff due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Good on Palmieri for condemning the actions of the Trump radicals, but also not wanting to fight fire with fire. His wish for a more understanding and patient, progressive solution to the issues that have hit a boiling point in the US show his true character as a thoughtful and compassionate human being. We really could use more of that in this world.
